The Tapestry in Three Threads – 1-3

By OLAOBA, Olaitan Oyedele

1.

Of geckos and worms

Of rats and leeches

Of scruffy ignorance and sad assumptions

Of audacities and small-mindedness

Of impudence and ingratitude

Of empty rant and careless wit

Of baseless familiarity, short memories and blatant insolence

Of hidden envy and hatred; of mocking whispers…

Of bland friendship and fallacious minds incapable of intelligence

Of you and your stupid mistake…that mistake that will not be forgiven.

2.

I love the feel of a new morning…

of the hopelessness it brings…

waking up to the uncertainty of a new day.

I love the rains, the soothing wretchedness it leaves behind…

I love the smell of new books; the smooth sound of flipping pages…

And the words that leap to kiss me.

For great conversations that I find and cherish before they thaw to conceit

For all the songs that have shaped my heart.

The goose bumps I get when love and affection happen once every while.

For friendships that last through a glass of wine…

For the inner peace and for positive energy…

So that the things I cannot afford do not become my burden.

3.

I am only me

Blood with a life of red.

Breaths deep and low

My tranquillity resides in words

Pure. Simple. Sincere

You are in my words

My heart cannot contain the immensity of you –

Your ego, your hubris will crush the life of me.

Easy. It is only me.

There is fire in your eyes

Blink, just once….

The silkiest nuance of Tenderness

Blink, just once, I want to see it again.

My tongue is a promise…

My mouth, a benediction.

I am only me

Blood with a life of red.

Red. Hot. Aching.
